Ibiza Cathedral

The Cathedral of Ibiza, located at the highest point of the walled city of Dalt Vila, is one of the most characteristic symbols of the island. The recognizable silhouette of Dalt Vila would not be identifiable without the figure of the Cathedral, present and visible from many points in the city and from different towns and places on the island. Since the creation of the bishopric of Ibiza in 1782, the church rose to the rank of Cathedral.

The Cathedral presents an architectural mixture, since although initially a Gothic temple was built, only the tower retains this style. The later construction of the Renaissance walls of the city endangered the stability of the Cathedral, so a Baroque-style remodeling of the church nave was carried out.

The interior of the Cathedral, like the rest of the churches on the island, has a sober appearance. The figure of the Virgin that we can see inside is a copy of the original, destroyed during the Civil War. Also noteworthy is the altarpiece of Sant Antoni Abad, installed in the temple since it was a parish.
